Pixie Lott is an up and coming star, who has already achieved her first UK Number No.1 at just 18 years old! This rising starlet is currently working on her first studio album under Mercury records, but her rise to fame hasn’t been such a simple journey.

At the age of 14, Pixie auditioned to be apart of ‘Britannica High’, and was even featured singing to Gary Barlow (of Take That), in one of the ‘making of’ episodes. However, Pixie didn’t make the final cut, but instead still held out for her dream, not letting her minor falls dent her passion. After picking up a copy of ‘The Stage’ magazine, Pixie noticed an advertisement for ‘the next pop diva’, she immediately begged her mom to let her audition, which eventually resulted in signing a deal with Mercury records. Before long, the advertisement soon propelled her into success, being flown over to New York to begin writing and recording her debut album, ‘Turn It Up’, with interesting collaborations with producers such as Red One (Lady GaGa and the Pussycat Dolls).
Pixies album features many different styles; in particular she has revealed information on a slow ballad from ‘Turn It Up’, named ‘Cry Me Out’. Pixie says Cry Me Out is a song which states ‘it’s time to really get over yourself’, also mentioning it could be put along side Justin Timberlake’s, ‘Cry Me A River’. Pixie also reveals that Cry Me Out features the line, ‘I got your emails, you just don’t get your females’, and from the look of things this is definitely going to be a song to watch out for!
Other songs from the album include Upbeat track ‘Here We Go Again’ (Which we love!), along side the extremely catchy title track ‘Turn It Up’, which Pixie explains it was easy to choose as the title as she wants listeners to ‘Turn it up up UP!’ From a first listen to the tracks that can be heard from Pixies MySpace page, as well as other various sources on the internet, this is definitely going to be one of the
hottest albums this year, so I highly recommend readers to check it out. Turn It Up is expected to drop September 7th 2009, and I assume (as it is traditional in the industry) the next single ’Boys & Girls’ will drop sometime around this release date. On stage Pixie tackles power house vocals similar to the styles of Whitney Houston and Christina Aguilera, while off-stage you’ll find her rock out to the tunes from The Strokes and The Kooks. Some of Pixies biggest influences include stars such as Gwen Steffani, Rihanna, Christina Aguilera, Mariah Carey, and even Britney Spears.
Pixie tells us that in fact her real name is ‘Victoria Lott’, but decided on the stage name Pixie, after continuously being referred to as Pixie by friends and family since she was very young, due to her ‘pixie’ like resemblance. It was also revealed in early June that Pixie had recorded a simlish version of her UK number No.1; ‘Mama Do’, which was then later released along side the digital download of the original song at Amazon and itunes. The song is a re-recorded variation of the original track featuring the fun, gibberish language that the ‘Sims’ speak in the game ‘The Sims 3’. Both versions of the track, including re-mixes on the physical copies of the disk, were released two days following her performance at ‘The Sims 3’ launch in London on June the 5th; with the song reaching the number one spot in the charts the following week. Pixie stated on her twitter that she was ‘Shocked’ that she reached number No.1, and thanked all her fans for their support and love. When I met Pixie…
I was lucky enough to get the chance to meet Pixie for the first time in Birmingham a few weeks back when she was performing at the Pride 2009 event. My sister had previously discovered her prior to her debut on the music scene, after hearing ‘What U Do’, a leaked track found on YouTube. I immediately fell in love. I quickly scoured the internet for more information and discovered she would be playing the main stage at Pride. My sister Claudia and I arrived just in time. Suddenly, a small, very dainty, pretty little girl took to the stage in a sleek Vivienne Westwood outfit, including short sequinned pants and matching
black stilettos. The instrumental track boomed in and she moved with total passion, commanding every part of the stage, and in my opinion putting her backing dancers to shame as she belted out strong controlled notes for a whole three songs; while effortlessly dancing around in stilettos may I add!
As she exited the stage, I knew that I would have to grab this opportunity to speak to her. Stunned by the performance, we ran around to the back of the cabin in search of her. As we approached she stood casually and walked over in front of me, at which point I said the only thing that came to mind; “Pixie! Oh gosh, I love yoooou!” Immediately thinking, why on earth did I just say that? She smiled with a slight laugh, and said “hey”, and we had a short chat before she was ushered away back to her hotel. All I can say is the girl is a sweetie pie. She’s so small and absolutely stunning, yet in her tiny frame she holds the biggest piece of talent the UK has seen for many many years. Watch this space, because although she may be small, she’s definitely going on to bigger things.
Pixie’s team have confirmed that the next single will be the track, ‘Boys & Girls’, that boasts a modern take on a 1960s vibe. Check it out at www.MySpace.com/pixiesongs, it’s definitely going to be a summer hit!
