A key trend this winter is the 80s, it’s everywhere!
80s REVIVAL. Bright canary yellow, candy pink and ultra violet on just about anything. Heavy woollen jackets in soft jersey materials took pride of place at Marc Jacobs show in NYC, producing an edgy futuristic twist on the classic staples of the 80s.
Decarnin designer of Balmain kept to the sharp shoulder trend he created last season, providing a hot piece that has been copied on every high street in the country. Glitzy blazers, sequinned dresses and rock chick black leather are a focal point for all those trying to re-create this wearable style. The idea of this trend is to mix and match, don’t be afraid to experiment, keep items seasonal and casual. It’s all about an easy relaxed look.
PARISIAN CHIC. Luxurious velvet’s and suedes are the order of the day for this trend. Designers like Ralph Lauren are coming up with beautiful tailored silk trousers, huge ruffled scarves and thin knit patterned jumpers. Cinch loose fabrics in around the waist with a thin crocodile print belt for a more figure skimming outfit.
Don’t be afraid to dress all in the same colour as long as you combine different fabric textures and layer to add points of interest to your outfit. Use intricate drop earrings to insert a touch of sophistication and jewelled hair bands to give your look some class. This style is great for vintage lovers who enjoy creating a glamourous put together look.
COUNTRY GIRL. Being in Britain we know the weather isn’t going to be so good in winter, so if you feel like looking stylish while you wrap up, this look might be for you.
Taking the mix of 1940s restrained silhouette and warm rich fabrics; Prada, Dior, and DKNY presented their collections. Chocolate brown, slate grey and tomato red are popular choices to combine when thinking of winter wear, but be careful with black for pale complexions as it can wash you out.
Wool or tweed style pencil skirts accentuate curves while architectural high collar, knee length coats can balance out your figure. Lace up ankle boots can take an outfit from day to night in one simple step. So if you’re usually a city chick why not try being a country girl this winter?
Smarten up
MENSWEAR. This season’s trends are based around rich fabrics and more groomed, grown up tailoring. Combining jeans with a heavy woollen coat and tucked in scarf is a great way of styling smart casual. Choosing navy blues and shades of grey, like Calvin Klein, can create a fashionable, clean lined image.
Black trench coats are great for sharpening up your image and keeping out the imminent rain.
Are you feeling adventurous? You could add a dark coloured flat cap like the boys in Burberry to style up your outfit. Chunky black biker style boots can add edge to your jeans and jacket combo and are available all across the high street. Investing in some black leather gloves could just finish off your look perfectly and keep your hands toasty too.

Make-up
Make-up can transform your face; so it’s important you get it right. Just like you wouldn’t wear a jumper in June, you shouldn’t use your summer foundation in winter. Your skin tone changes with the seasons so it’s important to get a look to match that. The catwalks are awash with ideas, not just for clothes but make-up too, so here are some looks you can create at a fraction of the cost.
OOH LA LA - If you fancy French fabulousness, try a matt red lipstick to give character to your face. This is a strong colour so complement it with a fresh face and a single slick of mascara. In the day keep your hair under a cute red hat, and for evening those with long hair leave it long a sleek, short hair pin back off your face and natural.
Retro glamour - The aim for this look is to be fun and flirty. Hair is in whatever style you feel comfy with but make sure it’s big and bold (back-combing is sure to achieve this, but makes sure you use plenty conditioner on your next wash). Try coral lipstick, or if you’re feeling daring purple, this will make your face pop! Great on darker skin tones.
Heritage - Keeping with the theme of country girl this look is about strong defined eyes. Make them smokey – dragging slate grey tones across the eyelid to fade on the side. A soft rose blush applied to the apples of cheeks for a warm winter glow.
